How you can help
Become a foster family
Foster care is a essential part of our rescue program. Fosters enable us to take dogs out of the shelter system and assist us in matching each rescued dog with the right forever home.
Families taking on a new Sit Pretty foster dog are asked to commit to a minimum 2 month foster period. We take special care to match you with a dog that will complement your home and lifestyle, and one of our coordinators is always a phone call away. We will provide you everything you will need; crate, supplies, food, veterinary care and training.
Why foster? Saving just one dog won’t change the world, but surely it will change the world for that one dog.
- Save two lives- the dog you foster, and the dog you have made room for in the shelter
- Experience the companionship of a pet without the cost or commitment
- Help a discarded dog realize his potential as a breed ambassador
Become a sponsor
Not everyone can foster, and that’s okay. Have a direct impact in another way- by becoming a Sponsor! Our Sponsorship program allows you to provide for the dog of your choice through donation. As a volunteer-run organization, every dollar raised benefits the dogs in our care. If you don’t have a specific adoptable in mind, ask us! We gratefully acknowledge our Sponsors with recognition on your sponsored dog’s adoptable listing.
In-kind donations, new or gently used, are also greatly appreciated. We are always in need of the following:
- Martingale collars
- Front clip harnesses
- Head halties
- Crates, L and XL
- Allergy-friendly food
- Treats and chews
- Kong toys
Note: At this time we are unable to generate tax deductible receipts.
Become a volunteer
We would not be here without our amazing volunteers. There are many ways to help and get involved!
Follow our volunteers’ page on Facebook to stay informed of upcoming volunteer opportunities!

Join us at a Sit Pretty Pit event to help set up/take down, advocate for the ‘breed’, wrangle adoptable dogs and ensure activities run smoothly.
Help us transport a dog from elsewhere in BC to the Okanagan, take a puppy to training class or a deliver a sick dog to the vet.
Assist in screening a potential foster or adoptive home by ensuring the environment is safe and suitable for a Sit Pretty pit. We have a home visit checklist to guide you.
One of the most challenging and rewarding roles in rescue is that of a foster guardian. Share your home on a temporary basis.. or fall in love and become a foster “failure”.
